What You Need to Know About Volkswagen Safety Systems

Volkswagen has redesigned its fleet to be smarter and safer than ever before. To help shine the light on some of the neatest and most innovative safety features offered in new Volkswagens, we decided to write this short guide for you to use as a reference while buying.

Notable VW Safety Features

Forward Collision Warning

This system utilizes sensors in the front of the car to monitor traffic and alert you to a potential collision. If the system determines that a collision is imminent, the vehicle will apply autonomous emergency braking to try and prevent you from colliding with the oncoming object.

Blind Spot Monitor

No matter how diligent of a driver you are, everyone misses something sometimes. Luckily, with the available blind spot monitor, you don’t need to worry about this potentially causing an accident. This system is constantly scanning your blind spot and will alert you if drivers are approaching from behind you when you’re changing lanes.

Lane Departure Warning

While you’re driving, this system uses front facing cameras to detect lane lines and will warn you when you’ve begun drifting into another lane without using your turn signal. On most models, this system can even apply autonomous steering to help get you back on track.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Set an ideal cruising distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you, and sit back while your Volkswagen does the hard stuff. Best of all, even if the car in front of you speeds up or slows down, your Volkswagen will adjust its speed on its own to maintain your preset distance.

Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

Designed to make getting out of parking spaces a breeze, this system will diligently scan behind you to make sure no cars are approaching from either side while your car is in reverse. If the system detects a vehicle approaching, it will provide a visual and audible warning and can even apply the brakes for you if needed.

Park Steering Assistant

Designed to make getting into parking spaces easier, this system will judge if a parking spot is big enough for your Volkswagen. If the system determines that your Volkswagen can fit into the space, it will provide you with steering assistance to get into the space.
